Corte Vetusto Mezcal Tobala
Description
Corte Vetusto Mezcal Tobala is a joven (un-aged) mezcal made from 100% wild Tobala agave (Agave Potatorum) — awarded Double Gold at the 2020 International Spirits Challenge, and produced entirely by traditional methods from earthen-oven roasting through clay-pot distillation.
Tobala is a small, wild highland agave that grows slowly in shade and yields little juice, making it one of the most prized and labor-intensive agaves for mezcal. Corte Vetusto roasts the agave in a conical earthen oven, mills it with a volcanic-stone tahona, ferments naturally, and distills twice — first in a 250L copper still, then in an ancestral 70L clay pot still — bottling at distillation proof.
