El Jolgorio Todos Santos Mezcaleros Arroqueno
Description
El Jolgorio Todos Santos Mezcaleros Arroqueño is an artisanal single-varietal mezcal made from 100% wild-harvested Arroqueño agave — produced by a Master Distiller in an indigenous Zapotec village in Oaxaca, twice-distilled in copper pot stills as part of the El Jolgorio collective. Each bottle is hand-marked with the agave species, age at harvest, village of production, master distiller’s name, and batch and lot number.
El Jolgorio is a collective of top mezcal distillers from around Oaxaca founded by the Cortés family in 2010 — representing sixteen different families working across ten different regions, with the express goal of sharing the true culture and spirit of mezcal at full provenance transparency. Traditional, artisanal mezcal forms an important part of rituals, ceremonies, and festivities (known as “jolgorios”) in villages in Oaxaca. In Mexico, around fifty different species of agave are used for mezcal production, with each yielding a mezcal of distinct character; Arroqueño is among the rarer wild varieties.
