Description

The Glenturret 12 Year Single Malt is the flagship expression from Scotland's oldest working distillery — founded in 1763 near Crieff in Perthshire, Glenturret has been producing whisky continuously for longer than any other operating Scottish distillery, and this 12-year is the fullest expression of that unbroken tradition.

Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry barrels, the 12-year is bottled at 46% ABV — meaningfully above the minimum 40%, which preserves the flavour integration and gives the spirit more presence on the palate. The distillery has been a key component in the Famous Grouse blend for decades, and since 2018 has focused on elevating its single malt program with expressions that reflect its traditional pot-still character.

Glenturret also holds a notable piece of distillery folklore: Towser the cat, who served as the distillery mouser for 24 years and holds the Guinness World Record for most mice caught — nearly 30,000 over her working life. A bronze statue of Towser stands outside the distillery to this day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Glenturret really Scotland's oldest distillery?

Yes — Glenturret was founded in 1763 and has operated continuously since, making it the oldest working distillery in Scotland.

Why is Glenturret bottled at 46% rather than 40%?

Bottling at 46% ABV preserves more of the natural character and flavour integration from cask maturation. It also makes the whisky non-chill filtered, which retains the natural oils and complexity.
