La Luna Mezcal Joven Ensamble
Description
La Luna Mezcal Joven Ensamble is a Michoacán ensamble (blend) mezcal crafted with two agaves native to the state — 70% Cupreata and 30% Tequilana (Blue Weber). Michoacán is part of the Denomination of Origin for Tequila, which is why Tequilana grows abundantly in its vibrant soils. The cooked agave is milled by hand, naturally fermented in open-air wooden vats, and double-distilled in a copper-and-pinewood Tarascan still. ABV varies by batch given the artisanal nature.
The Perez Escot family has been traditionally crafting mezcal on the same Villa Madero property since 1910, currently on the 4th generation of mezcaleros with Isidro Perez Escot training his son Amador. The Tarascan copper-and-pinewood still is distinctly Michoacán, predating standard copper alembic distillation in regional terms and contributing a distinctive character not found in Oaxacan mezcal production.
