Banhez Maguey Pechuga Mezcal
Description
Banhez Maguey Pechuga is a pechuga-style mezcal from the Banhez co-operative in Oaxaca — 100% espadín mezcal redistilled with indigenous seasonal fruits and a raw turkey breast hung over the copper still, imparting balanced flavors and complexity to the vapors before condensation. A traditional Oaxacan special-occasion mezcal, best enjoyed neat or over ice.
Banhez is produced by Integradora Comercial de Ejutla, a co-operative of 36+ families in San Miguel Ejutla, Oaxaca, committed to sustainable, fair-trade mezcal made as it has been for nearly two centuries — underground wood-fired pits, donkey-pulled stone tahonas, wooden-tank fermentation, and small-batch copper distillation. Pechuga (“breast”) has been consumed across Oaxaca on special occasions for centuries.
