Ichiro’s Malt & Grain Limited Edition is a blended Japanese whisky from Ichiro Akuto, master distiller at Chichibu Distillery — grandson of the founder of Hanyu Distillery, who saved his grandfather’s old inventory after Hanyu shuttered in the 1990s and turned it into the now-legendary Playing Card series before opening Chichibu in 2008. Ichiro is one of the most respected figures in modern Japanese whisky.

Ichiro Akuto’s journey is one of the defining stories of the modern Japanese whisky revival. After Hanyu closed in the 1990s, Ichiro preserved his grandfather’s aging stock and built the Playing Card series — now unicorn whisky in the collector market. Recognizing the looming Japanese whisky revival, he founded Chichibu Distillery in 2008. At Chichibu, Ichiro embraces both the heritage of Scottish whisky-making and the shokunin (artisan-craft) philosophy of precision that defines Japanese spirits at their highest level.
