Nonino Quintessentia Amaro Liqueur
Description
Nonino Quintessentia Amaro is produced by Distillatori Nonino in Percoto, Friuli, Italy — an amaro built on a grappa base (grape pomace distillate) rather than the neutral alcohol base used by most Italian amaros. Mountain herbs, roots, and botanicals are macerated in the grappa and then aged in barrique oak casks, producing a complex, aromatic bittersweet liqueur at 35% ABV.
The grappa base is what distinguishes Quintessentia from other premium amaros — the pomace distillate adds a funky, vinous character beneath the herbal bitterness that neutral-spirit amaros cannot replicate. Nonino has been distilling in Friuli since 1897 and helped pioneer single-varietal grappa as a premium spirits category in Italy. Quintessentia is their flagship amaro and among the most decorated Italian amaros internationally.
