Nux Alpina Walnut Liqueur
Description
Nux Alpina Walnut Liqueur is an Austrian alpine walnut liqueur from the Purkhart family (Günter Purkhart, Sankt Peter in der Au) — fresh green walnuts of the delicate “Weinsberg” variety are handpicked each summer, steeped for months in grape brandy, then infused with spices and alpine botanicals during the final month. Three generations have built the producer’s reputation, with award-winning eaux-de-vie, schnaps, and liqueurs since 1932. Günter Purkhart’s exacting distillation techniques are taught to many of today’s leading producers.
Green walnut liqueur (nocino in Italy, the Austrian Nux Alpina here) is a long-standing European tradition that captures the bitter, nutty, and slightly herbaceous character of unripe walnuts in their husks. The Alpine botanical and spice infusion in the final stage builds additional complexity on top of the walnut base. At 27% ABV, suited to after-dinner sipping, coffee, cream, or egg drinks, but not overly sweet.
