Umeshu Plum Liqueur

Umeshu Plum Liqueur from Umenoyado Brewery is an Aragoshi-style Japanese plum liqueur — “Aragoshi” meaning “roughly pressed,” describing the production approach that retains 21% freshly squeezed ume plum nectar by volume in the finished bottle. The result is a richer, more textured umeshu than filtered alternatives, with visible plum pulp and the natural sweetness of the fruit preserved.

Umenoyado Brewery in Nara Prefecture has a long history of producing both sake and umeshu, with the Aragoshi expression representing the producer’s most distinctive umeshu approach. Ume plums (technically more closely related to apricot than European plum) are hand-washed and macerated, and the rough-pressed processing keeps the fruit integrity intact through bottling. Served chilled, on the rocks, or in cocktails.
