Jockey Chris Antley leapt off the horse and held his leg to prevent further injury in one of racing's most emotional moments. Charismatic recovered and was retired to breeding. The 1999 edition is among the earliest in the Woodford Reserve annual Derby program, now 25 years from its original release.
